Teaching Space Utilisation Survey
A large university wished to perform regular classroom space audits, but needed some help and expertise in setting up the structure and process. The regular audits were to be used to measure the effectiveness of their timetabling system and to identify key space pressure points for future space planning.
Mosaic Space organized the setup of the audit process, providing the project plan, the creation of audit routes based on campus plans and the outline of the necessary infrastructure that would be required to carry out the audit effectively. Consultants were provided for the first audit, with special attention given to knowledge transfer to enable the university staff to carry out the audits independently in the future.
The company also provided tools to help with the analysis of the data. This meant going beyond the simple collection of audit data and included comparisons with data from other sources, such as the student system and the timetable. Mosaic Space was also able to help with trend analyses to assist the university in understanding the real space changes that were taking place. Being able to compare real space usage data along with enrolment and planning data has given the university a clearer perspective on how to plan for space in the future and how to maximise space usage in the short to medium term.
